What’s the world heritage?
Due to dam construction on the Nile River in Egypt in the 1950s, ancient Nubian ruins in Sudan (such as the Great Temple of Abu Simbel of Ramses II) were in danger of being submerged. Since then, UNESCO has developed a worldwide movement to protect Nubian heritage, and aroused interest in heritage internationally. In order to discover, protect and preserve the cultural and natural heritages having universal human value, UNESCO adopted the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1972.
The World Heritage created by this convention is a program to protect valuable assets of outstanding universal value, and is divided into cultural heritage created by mankind, natural heritage that is a product of nature, and mixed heritage that has the characteristics of both cultural and natural heritages.
